A lot of people only consider "survival of the fittest" to mean the physically fit, or those with high IQs, or those who are successful in taking, get to prosper. However, human history and yet larger, its evolution, has been completely predicated on helping each other. We got this far by everyone helping each other be their best selves. Let's not forget all the prehistoric skeletons that have been found of people who aged after attaining disabilities. This means that even when resources were harder to obtain, the physically disabled were taken care of by their communities. Who knows how they contributed? Maybe they carried the knowledge. Maybe they simply contributed by existing. 

Either way, it's plain to see that a human's greatest evolutionary advantage is to ask for help and to help in return (even if it's not the exact person who helped you in the first place).
